Maria Croci

Councillor for Kindness in the town of Malnate

Since September 2019 the City Administration has joined the National Network of Kindness adding Kindness to the councilor delegation. This delegation is intended to increase the well-being of the community, a commitment in the future time, putting children at the center, with a view to becoming all more friendly, respectful, empathetic, helpful and attentive. Doing nice things, doing good, making people feel good. Kindness is a natural medicine, those who practice it feel happier, optimistic and grateful to life. Kindness has been compared to a muscle, and for this reason it must be trained every day.

The commitment of the Councillor over the years has been to promote awareness actions aimed at children, teens, adults, schools and the territory. Benches “of kindness” have been painted, city staircases have been embellished, brooches with their logo have been spread, games have been proposed and Gentile Calendars have been distributed in schools, celebrated on November 13 (Kindess’ World Day). From January 2020 the “Kindness Editorial Board” was born, with SOS Junior.

In April 2022 the city of Malnate became part of Daniel Lumera’s Italy Kindness Movement with the project “Care and beauty of the region”. Starting from the concept that “beauty excites and gives well-being” we started with simple actions to give beauty to flower beds, spaces, large pots “forgotten; inviting and sensitizing common citizens and businesses to take care over time. For this reason, seeds have been given as gifts to be planted in public places, but also in private gardens, with the intention of creating a “hummingbird effect” – in the sense of “being a gift”, with an individual responsibility for collective well-being.

Go Kindness!

Omar Hassan

Born in Milan in 1987, of an Italian mother and an Egyptian father, Omar Hassan grew up between two different cultures, and this aroused in him a deep curiosity towards the new, the different and the outside world.  He is a research artist, after graduating from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, in the painting course held by Alberto Garutti, a great exponent of Italian contemporary art. The conceptual influence breathed while studying at the Academy has given the artist the means to express himself in his painting and sculpture, always with thought and profound meaning behind each work. Obsessed and enchanted by the synthetic pictorial gestures of the great masters such as Fontana, Pollock and Manzoni, he too places simple gestures at the basis of his experimentation, simple contemporary gestures capable of enclosing and narrating an entire philosophy, an entire culture or a new concept. This is how an aerosol, the very first breath of a spray can, incorporates the signifier of the entire Street Art culture, the series entitled “Injections” (among the most famous works is the cover of the 256th  La Lettura del Corriere della Sera). Omar also brought these gestures into his dialogues between painting and sculpture that can be seen in the exhibition at the Church of the Misericordia in Venice, during the last Art Biennale. The sculptures blended perfectly with the paintings, but also with the space itself, as the artist loves to work and create ad hoc works, mixing them and following the original essence of the space. “Breaking Through” is another series linked to the synthesis of the gesture; the fist is charged with all the values of a discipline in a single line: “I’m not punching to destroy, I’m creating”. Boxing, the Noble Art is thus celebrated in a series of 121 large canvasses (180 x 200 cm) all unique pieces; and 121 is the number of rounds the artist went during his short boxing career. He wanted to highlight the conceptual aspect of the sport within his research. “Boxing is the metaphor of life par excellence, each one of us has his crosses and must fight, if we fall to the ground we have to pick ourselves up, we have breaks, in the corner, but then we are forced to get back into the fight. Each one of us is the boxer of his own experience”. All the pictorial gestures are marked by time, a constant very dear to Hassan that he puts into each of his works, especially in the latest series “Time Lines”, exhibited at Villa Reale in Monza, where the canvasses represent the actual wall in the artist’s studio. Over the years he has covered his walls with his canvasses, if they were a tapestry, marking the date when each is mounted, white and clean, and the date when each is taken down, marked by the work done: “from 5/3/2016 to 5/3/2018″ is title of the work, two years of labour in the studio”. The desire to track time to give importance to everything that lies behind things. After having exhibited in Tokyo, London, New York, Miami and Singapore, in Italy he produced two major exhibitions: in 2020 at Palazzo delle Arti in Naples and in 2020 at Palazzo Stelline in Milan.
